Initiate Scripts Using Email Messages
The Email Gateway allows you to initiate scripts by
sending an email message to a reserved address. This
product can be used to automatically process email
messages from customers, or begin processes in response
to monitoring applications that send email notifications,
etc.
The Email Gateway acts like an SMTP email receiver.
However, instead of storing or forwarding email messages
it receives, the gateway uses information in the email
address to determine what script should be used to
process the email message; then, it initiates the
processing script immediately. The processing script
receives the full contents of the email message. At this
point, what the script does to process the email message
is entirely up to you. The processing script can respond
to the email message, log its contents, initiate
error-handling procedures, etc.
The Email Gateway is designed to work with the
Vanguard Server™ application.
