Vanguard Studio™ is an Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) used by developers to build Web-based
applications. It gives you access to all of Vanguard's
Business Analytics and Expert System capabilities using a
graphical development interface.

Building Web-based applications with the Vanguard
System™ is far quicker and much less expensive in
terms of development time than other methods of
server-side scripting. This speed and low cost makes it
possible to build applications that change frequently. In
addition, the Vanguard System's efficiency allows you to

tools—applications that simply cannot be built using
traditional Web development tools.
To ensure speed in building scripts, the Vanguard
System uses an enhanced version of JavaScript®
as its core programming language. This allows you to use
the same language for both server-side and client-side

scripting without having to learn a new language; and,
you can freely move components you have developed between
the server and client environments without re-coding.

server-side applications has a number of advantages over

browser. In addition, the active content is very fast.

What You Need to Get Started
Creating and delivering Web-based applications
requires the following pieces of the Vanguard System:
The first two pieces are used together for building
scripts. A personal server that allows you to test
scripts on the same computer you use for development is
included. The last piece, the Vanguard Server, is a
production Web server that allows you to integrate your
scripts with the rest of your Web site. This makes the
scripts available to your entire user community. Your Web
site visitors do not need any special software to run
your scripts because the server handles all script
activity and translates user communication into standard
HTML documents and forms that work with every Web
browser.
