Option 4 - Chaining Several Servers Together
This option is designed for high-volume Web sites. In this
configuration you will have chosen one of the three previous
options for splitting your primary Web traffic from the
DecisionScript-specific traffic, but you will also use one or
more additional computers for overflow DecisionScript traffic.
In the Sessions sheet of DecisionScript Server's Properties
dialog box, you can enter the Maximum number of sessions that you
will allow to run on the server at one time and the URL for the
secondary server that will handle any overflow.
In the example above, the maximum number of sessions is set to
50. This means that the 51st visitor who attempts to run a script
will be bounced to the secondary server. The secondary server can
be set up in exactly the same manner as the primary
DecisionScript server so that once it is at capacity, the visitor
is bounced to the third server and so on. With this configuration
you can keep adding computers to the chain as your Web traffic
grows.
For a more detailed explanation of this configuration, please
refer to the section Getting Optimal Performance from Your
Server.
If you need to run a large number of servers simultaneously,
contact Vanguard Software about its DecisionScript Load-Balancing
Gateway. This application allows you to set up a single gateway
that routes all DecisionScript traffic to the least loaded
computer. With this software, your Web site visitors will
experience the best possible performance and your site will not
go down if individual computers fail or are taken off line.
