First Grid Computing Service for Monte Carlo Simulation

announces the launch of the world's first commercial Grid
Computing Service for running large Monte Carlo
simulations. The new service lets Vanguard customers run
their Monte Carlo simulations 25 times faster than normal
using Vanguard, and 250 times faster than someone using
spreadsheet add-ins.

Monte Carlo simulations help to manage business risk
and simulate complex decisions. It allows companies to
replace point estimates with fuzzy values that reflect
their uncertainty; and, this helps to characterize the
range of potential outcomes in a business situation and
assess the probability of reaching specific targets.
The Vanguard Grid Computing Service is used to improve
the performance of Monte Carlo simulations by dividing
the simulation task between many computers. When you
initiate a Monte Carlo simulation in Vanguard, you have
the option of running locally on your own computer or
remotely on the Grid. When you choose the Grid, Vanguard
assembles your model as a job package, compresses and
encrypts the package, and sends it to the Grid via the
Internet. Once the job is received, the Grid divides the
job between all available computers and manages the
simulation. When the simulation is complete, the results
are transmitted to your computer.
