NC State Graduate Students Learn About Vanguard's Enterprise Simulation Software

Class Lecture Highlights Enterprise Simulation and its Role in Enterprise Risk Management

Cary, NC – January 28, 2008 – Graduate students in a course entitled Risk Analytics, at North Carolina State University’s (NC State) College of Management Institute for Advanced Analytics, learned about emerging software technology that is specifically designed for Enterprise Simulation. Brian Lewis, VP of Professional Services for Vanguard Software, delivered a lecture which focused on the Vanguard System™, a collaborative planning and analysis application that supports sophisticated risk analysis techniques such as Monte Carlo Simulation and Grid Computing. “Dr. Lewis' discussion highlighted the unique features of the Vanguard System that truly make it the next generation of decision support tools,” said Al Chen, Associate Professor of Accounting at NC State. “Vanguard’s flexible, quantitative modeling approach promotes enterprise-wide risk management through analytic capabilities."

The Risk Analytics course applies a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches to enterprise risk management in measuring and managing organizational risk. Students gain practical exposure to software tools that use statistical methods and contemporary data structures to support managerial decision-making and risk mitigation.

Lewis explains that, "Enterprise simulation is the next logical evolution of decision support software following the explosion of the business intelligence and predictive analytics market over the last several years. Companies are quickly realizing that backward-looking analysis of historical data is simply insufficient, on its own, to drive company strategy.
