NC State's College of Management Joins the Vanguard Academic Partnership Program

NC State Receives Substantial Software Donation and Develops New Enterprise Risk Management Course Content

Cary, NC – November 7, 2007 – Vanguard Software Corporation, the leader in management systems for planning, analysis and knowledge automation, has partnered with the College of Management at North Carolina State University through the Vanguard Academic Partnership Program. In support of the University's participation, Vanguard Software is donating licenses for the new Vanguard System™ to the College, given lectures in MBA classes, and is working with the faculty to develop new course content based on the Vanguard System. Professors Paul Bergey and Al Chen are integrating the Vanguard System into two new graduate courses for the Spring of 2008: “Risk Management Measurement Tools” offered through the College’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative, and “Risk Analytics” offered through the Institute of Advanced Analytics.

“We are very excited about providing our students with exposure to world-class modeling tools like the Vanguard System. We are confident that the skills delivered in this new course, including direct interaction with Vanguard Software trainers, will provide our students with a competitive edge in the marketplace for jobs,” said Paul Bergey, Associate Professor in the College of Management. Professor Al Chen added, “We want students to learn the skills to create, produce, and share analyses that produce solutions to business questions using advanced analytic tools like Vanguard System.”

“NC State University’s College of Management is a great fit for our Academic Partnership Program and we look forward to developing new course content with their outstanding faculty. We appreciate the College’s focus on Management of Technology and their promotion of Enterprise Risk Management,” said Brian Lewis, who has a doctorate in Operational Research and is Vanguard Software’s VP of Professional Services and Director of the Academic Partnership Program. “Plus, this is an opportunity to support one of our great local universities.”

The Vanguard Academic Partnership Program is designed to enrich student learning experiences and faculty research opportunities by integrating the Vanguard System into academic institutions around the world. The Vanguard System is a comprehensive business solution for improving the quality, reliability, and speed of management decisions. It does this by helping companies collaborate with colleagues on important plans, analyze alternatives using state-of-the-art modeling and simulation techniques, automate routine decisions using expert system technology, and improve overall management effectiveness by adding structure to a normally chaotic process. Business improvement is all about working smarter. Vanguard brings together the people, analytics, and systems required to help businesses operate intelligently.
