California State University, Fresno
Joins the Vanguard Academic Partnership Program
Partnership Advances the State of Research in
Construction Management and Building Information Modeling
Cary, NC October 17, 2007 Vanguard
Software Corporation, the leader in management systems
for planning, analysis and knowledge automation, has
partnered with the California State University, Fresno,
College of Engineerings Construction Management
program through the Vanguard Academic Partnership
Program. In support of the University's participation,
Vanguard Software is donating licenses of the new
Vanguard System™ to the program. The Construction
Management program will integrate the Vanguard System
into graduate and undergraduate courses in Risk Analysis
and conduct research into how it can support risk
analysis, project management, and decision-making within
the framework of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
Applying the Vanguard Systems cutting-edge
risk analysis and decision-making capabilities within the
framework of Building Information Modeling will allow the
Construction Management program at Fresno State to
strengthen its long-standing relevancy to industry by
training its graduates in state-of-the-art tools,
said Dr. Michael Jenkins, Dean of the College of
Engineering. Fresno States Construction
Management students and graduates represent some of the
best in the profession and our participation in the
Vanguard Academic Partnership Program sends a strong
message to our students and alumni recognizing not only
the excellence of the Construction Management program at
Fresno State but also the commitment of the College of
Engineering to the continued success of the
program.
Assistant Professor Dr. Jason Charalambides, who is
leading Fresno States effort to integrate the
Vanguard System into Construction Management curricula
and research pointed out that, "Integrating the
Vanguard System with BIM software should facilitate
designers in a multiplicity of issues that vary from
costs of construction, energy efficient design, or even
structural design. As a long range objective we see our
research leading to the development of more advanced
construction-related software and the seamless
incorporation of risk analysis within both the design and
management disciplines in the construction
industry.
Brian Lewis, who has a doctorate in Operational
Research and is VP of Professional Services and Director
of the Academic Partnership Program for Vanguard
Software, says I look forward to seeing how Dr.
Charalambides and his colleagues advance the state of
research and practice in Construction Management and
Building Information Modeling. We, at Vanguard,
appreciate the vision of the Construction Management
program and its keen awareness of how important
risk-based planning and costing is during the design
phase of construction projects.
The Vanguard Academic Partnership Program is designed
to enrich student learning experiences and faculty
research opportunities by integrating the Vanguard System
into academic institutions around the world. The Vanguard
System is a comprehensive business solution for improving
the quality, reliability, and speed of management
decisions. It does this by helping companies collaborate
with colleagues on important plans, analyze alternatives
using state-of-the-art modeling and simulation
techniques, automate routine decisions using expert
system technology, and improve overall management
effectiveness by adding structure to a normally chaotic
process. Business improvement is all about working
smarter. Vanguard brings together the people, analytics,
