University of Benin (Nigeria) Joins
the Vanguard Academic Partnership Program
Vanguard System™ Helps Improve the State of
Healthcare and Public Health in Nigeria and Beyond
Cary, NC – March 28, 2007 – Vanguard
Software Corporation, the leader in management systems
for planning, analysis and knowledge automation, has
partnered with the University of Benin in Nigeria through
the Vanguard Academic Partnership Program. In support of
University's teaching and research in pharmacoeconomics,
Vanguard Software is donating licenses for the new
Vanguard System™ to the Department of Clinical
Pharmacy.
“Vanguard System’s analytical power has made
it possible for us to model healthcare scenarios from
multiple perspectives that promote understanding of
healthcare dynamics,” said Pharmacist UDEZI, Tony
Waka, a faculty member in the Department of Clinical
Pharmacy. “Apart from increasing both the quality
and quantity of pharmacoeconomics and outcome research
from the University, this donation enhances the practical
training of our students in the science of healthcare
decision-making that will impact positively on the
quality of life of Nigerians in the presence of scarce
resources.”
The Department of Clinical Pharmacy will use the
Vanguard System in teaching and research of
pharmacoeconomics in a number of health-related
applications, including among others:
- Decision Tree Analysis to evaluate the
cost-effectiveness of healthcare policies for
pharmaceuticals;
- Budget impact analysis of the introduction of new
health technologies;
- Forecasting of pharmaceutical needs by healthcare
facility; and
- Developing a Web-based diagnostic tool for
malaria.
